Seniors Start Preparing for IC3 Certification

ITC II students began prepareing for the IC3 Certification this week.
The IC3 Certification is "The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) program is the world's first validated, standards-based training and certification program for basic computing and Internet knowledge and skills. Successful completion of IC³ ensures you have the knowledge and skills required for basic use of computer hardware, software, networks, and the Internet. IC³ is your gateway to advancement in education, employment, or other certification programs."
The test is made up of 3 modules: comptuing fundamentals, Key applicaitons and Living Online to prove how well they understand each of the three areas of computers.

This industry-standard test, paid for my OHP provides the students the opportunity to take a certification test that professionals in the IT industry would take. This helps prepare them to find employement upon completion of the program. Students who are continuing their educaiton may use the certification to articulate, or pass out of, college-level courses. This helps the student complete college faster and cheaper.

Seniors review Photoshop Tools

Recently ITC2 did an activity which we had to place our heads onto another body, remove red eye from a picture, and change the color of an apple, all using Adobe Photoshop. The students went to Photo Booth and took pictures of themselves, then opened that picture and the selected picture of another person, and placed their head unto that person’s body.

The next assignment was to change the color of a picture of an apple and by changing the hue and saturation change the color of the apple.

The last assignment was to use the special Red Eye Removal tool to remove the red eye from the person in the picture.

Logan Co. Sheriff's Office Speaks about Computer Forensics

Sergeant Ryan Furlong from the Logan County Sheriff Office came to speak about his career in computer forensics. He spoke with students in Information Technology, Business Administration and Electronic Engineering about some of the cases he’s worked on and how computers helped solve the crimes. He explained the process the Sheriff's Office follows to obtain evidence from a computer and how they log the evidence for trial. Some of the cases have included searching through Internet history, email, documents on the computer hard drives and flash drives as well as other types of technology.

Sgt. Furlong explained his educational background began by attending the electronics program here at OHP then continued at DeVry and the police academy. He informed them of the continued education required in computer forensics with certification and short courses to learn about new techniques.

In addition to explaining education requirements, he talked about what job opportunities exist in the area for students who want to help solve computer crimes.

Students were given the opportunity to ask questions to find out more information about the career.

Juniors Teach Each Other About the Tools in Photoshop

This week ITC I students were introduced to the tools in Photoshop.

This picture editing program has lots of fun and practical purposes. We will be using it to not only edit photos but make images for video, web and other digital media.

Learning how to use the tools is an essential starting point, so students were paired up and assigned a tool. They worked together to learn how to use the tool then presented their findings to the class. This gives them an opportunity to not only learn on their own, but teach others.

Now that students know what the tools are and what options are available, next week we can start working on projects using the tools!

Seniors Learn About Wireless Communication

This week we learned about wireless  communication.

How we learned about wireless communication is we set up a wireless router  and then we showed Mrs. Blackburn that we were able to access the router. We set the router up by using command prompt to bring up the IP address for the computer, we then typed in the address in to Mozilla Firefox and it asked us for passwords. We filled in the info and we then changed the name of the router and the routers security to WPA2 and created a password.

The first day of school for juniors was Wed., Aug. 26. They had a chance to explore the school through a class tour and then a scavenger hunt.

Bruce Patton and Katie Mustain from the University of Northwestern Ohio came to explain college opportunities and help with personality testing for possible first careers. Many students realized they're in the right lab program!

We had a great start to the school year!
